Registered Midwives are healthcare professionals who provide low-risk obstetrical care during pregnancy, labour & birth and during the postpartum period. If you live in Ontario, Canada, there is NO COST to having midwifery care; it is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Families who choose midwifery care have access to all the same screening tests and technologies that are offered by other healthcare providers, such as family doctors and obstetricians. This includes the ability to have access to pain relief medications, such as an epidural during labour, if a client wishes to have one. Our midwifery clients have the option to have a hospital birth at North York General Hospital or they can choose to plan a homebirth.
Midwifery clients appreciate the ability to make informed decisions when presented with options regarding their care. They enjoy their relationships with their midwives; whom they have the opportunity to get to know during the course of their pregnancy. Midwifery clients enjoy having a known midwife provide care during labour who also delivers the baby.
Midwives provide clinical postpartum care for both parent and newborn for the first 6 weeks after the baby is born. This includes several clinical homevisits during the first week postpartum. During these visits, midwives provide hands-on support with newborn feeding. At Midwifery Care North Don River Valley, we provide midwifery care to families living in north Toronto (North York, north Etobicoke) and Vaughan (Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Markham, Concord, Maple, Woodbridge). Our midwifery clinic is located at Finch & Bathurst (200 Finch Ave West). Our hospital is North York General Hospital (Hwy 401 & Leslie).
